What Kind of Account Is This?
August 20, 2026
It’s been a while since I started posting on Instagram.
Maybe I’m not supposed to say this, but I still sometimes wonder what kind of account this actually is.
Right now, I mostly post about how Japanese people think, differences between Japan and other countries, the Japanese language, places I visit, and fitness.
Thankfully, a lot of people have chosen to follow along, and some even tell me they’re looking forward to what I do next. I’m really grateful for that.
At the same time, when I post something a little different, I sometimes notice a few people leave.
And that makes total sense.
Most people follow you because they saw something they liked, so naturally they expect more of it. And as more people start following you, you also start wondering what they expect from you.
Social media is full of really talented people too.
I’m often amazed by what people can do. I find it inspiring, but sometimes a little tiring too.
Everyone seems to have their thing.
So naturally, I started wondering what mine was supposed to be.
Japan?
Language?
Travel?
Fitness?
I’ve thought about it quite a lot, but whenever I try to choose just one, it never feels quite right.
Recently, I started thinking that maybe I was looking at it the wrong way.
Instead of deciding what kind of account this should be first, maybe I should think more about what I actually want to do.
I love traveling. I love sports. Living abroad made me even more interested in both Japanese culture and other cultures.
I also like taking photos, learning new things, meeting people, and trying things I haven’t done before.
They’re all things I genuinely enjoy.
So maybe that’s where I should start.
I definitely want to keep sharing Japan.
I was born and raised here, but there are still so many places I’ve never been and so much about my own country that I don’t know.
Since I started doing this, I’ve also realized how many things that feel completely normal to me can seem interesting, strange, beautiful, or surprising to someone from another country.
There’s still a lot about Japan that I want to learn myself, and a lot I want to share with people around the world.
I also want to see more of the world.
I like going somewhere new, meeting people I normally wouldn’t meet, and seeing different ways of living and thinking.
Travel has already changed the way I see a lot of things, and I’d like to spend another long period of time abroad in the future.
Sport will be a big part of what I do too.
I love being active, and sport is one of the things that has shaped who I am.
Running has become part of my everyday life. I’d like to run a full marathon someday, and I’m also interested in trying road cycling.
I haven’t shared this side of myself very much so far, but I really like the idea of combining travel and sport.
Running somewhere I’ve never been.
Cycling along the coast.
Seeing a place at a different pace.
They’re things I’d want to do even if I never posted about them.
And I want to keep trying new things.
Not just because they might make good content, but because I enjoy trying things and seeing where they lead.
If someone sees what I’m doing and thinks, “Maybe I’ll try something too,” that would make me really happy.
I don’t think I need one word to explain everything I do.
I’d rather keep doing the things I genuinely care about and share them in a way that feels natural to me.
Japan, travel, sport, meeting people, trying new things.
That’s probably the best answer I have right now.
